All skin care needs to be preserved otherwise it would soon look like an open jar of mayonase left out on the kitchen counter for a few days. Most companies used chemical preservatives to prevent mold and bacteria from growing. Some use volitale oils, such as grapefruit oil, tea tree oil, etc. These aren’t harmful, but are very irritating to the skin. One company I know of doesn’t list any of the harmful preservatives below on the label, but one of their suppliers uses parabens to preserve an ingredient they purchase – so they sneak it in.

Below are the common harmful preservatives used in almost all skin care:

First are the common Formaldehyde Releasing Preservatives Used in Personal Care Products. We all know we don’t want formaldehyde on or in our bodies while we’re still walking this earth:

Diazolidinyl Urea

Quaternium-15

Imidazolidinyl Urea

DMDM Hydantoin

Methyldibromo glutaronitrile

Parabens were approved by the FDA in the 1950s and were thought to be safe in short term tests, but they are rapidly absorbed and appear like estrogen to the body. A British study looked at breast cancer tissue from a large number of women and found very high concentrations of several paraben preservatives in them!!

The most Common Parabens Used in Personal Care Products

Butylparaben

Ethylparaben

Methylparaben

Propylparaben

What we found and recommend is the first full personal skin care line which is is free of the above preservatives and free of irritating volatile oils and still has a full 2 year shelf life. This company developed a patented process to prevent bacteria and mold growth.  For more information on this paraben free skin care line click here.
