If an all-organic or all natural product did exist, you would not want to use it on your skin. The so-called all natural ingredients can themselves cause allergies, irritation, and skin sensitivities. You only need to think of how many people have hay fever from natural sources, or the pain from touching all natural poison ivy? This will help you realize just how unfriendly certain natural ingredients may sometimes be. As for organic, there is no definition of what organic means in cosmetics, so Organic can mean anything the manufactures wants it to – It is just marketing.
The idea that “all natural” equals good skin care or better make-up will likely waste your money and probably hurt your skin. For some strange reason it is hard for women (consumers) to believe this. They want to believe what the cosmetic companies spend a lot of advertising money on, reinforcing their message about natural ingredients. It gets even more confounding as the promoting sources speak of exotic plants from the rain forest or from a tribe in some small spot around the world, or herbs from India. Consumers want to beleive this kind of hype or myths.
All natural ingredients are one of the most bogus, misleading advertising components of the cosmetic industry because they focus attention on the wrong information. Don‚t get me wrong, there are some natural sounding ingredients that are good for skin. These will be antioxidants, nourishing or soothing ingredients. What they won‚t be is “fragrance”! If you look at the ingredient list of most all natural lines most of those ingredients are known fragrant names. Like peppermint, Lemon, Lavender, Rose oil, Clover, just to name only a few from a very long list. These are the natural ingredients we are speaking about, they do not help – they are irritating and harm skin.
We also need to learn the difference between organic and natural from what we eat and what is suggested for skin application. Keep in mind food type ingredients in skin care products increase the need for additional preservatives to decrease mold and bacteria contamination. Food can also feed the bacteria present in our skin increasing the risk of breakouts. Yeast or bacteria cultures in cosmetics can exacerbate conditions like Rosacea and Psoriasis.
Despite what we understand about all natural products, what countless physicians, cosmetic chemists, and other scientists and research tells us, it is not easy to counter the hype and lies about all natural or “pure” lines.
We need to learn to shop with knowledge, not from hype advertising or purchase because it smells nice or the jar is like jewelry on our bathroom counter.
High quality products, like Usana’s Sense, will have been extensively tested under dermatologists and ophthalmologists supervised conditions. They have been reviewed and analyzed by board certified toxicologists for cytology and toxicology. They will also go through extensive R.I.P. (Hypoallergenic) tests for skin. Some companies produce products which can have a nice all natural or organic marketing claim, but without real regard to the true effect on the consumers skin.
