When a woman makes her visit to the OB/GYN to find out if she is pregnant, and gets the yes, her doctor will usually tell her to stop taking what ever supplements she might be taking and start taking a prescription prenatal vitamin.  One would think that since these are prescription and prescribed by a doctor that they must be very good.

Sadly prenatal supplements are no better than most run of the mill multivitamins but just have extra folic acid and may have iron. Worse yet a study a several years ago at the University of Maryland http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9519649 studied the available prescription multivitamins available for proper folic acid release. Sadly 6 of the 9 didn’t even dissolve. If it doesn’t dissolve you can’t absorb the nutrients. Of the remaining 3, two released than 25% of the stated folic acid.

Our daughter is expecting and as expected her OB/GYN gave her a prescripton for prenatals. Insted she took in the USANA Essentials multivitamins we’ve all be taking and asked here OB/GYN to look at those. He said they looked great. He was concerned about the amount of vitamin A listed (10,000 IU). Sadly the doctor didn’t understand that expecting mothers should watch their intake of preformed vitamin A. The USANA Essentials use beta carotene. This is not vitamin A, but your body will quickly convert the beta carotene to vitamin A as it needs it, so you get all the vitamin A you need without the danger of too much vitamin A.

The USANA Essentials have been ranked as the #1 multivitaimn in North America in all 5 editions of the Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements covering the last dozen years.  They are also listed in the Physicians Desk Reference. When our daughter pointed that out to her OB/GYN and he looked them up, he was immediately impressed and gave his full blessing.

If you’re watching the London Olympics there are 60 athletes who take the USANA Essentials daily – You know Olympic athletes are very critical of what they take for fear of testing positive for banned substances and they also want the absolute best available.
