Laser hair removal is a medical procedure. Even though where you go for laser hair removal looks like a spa, there must be a medical director who oversees the operations. He/she doesn’t need to be on site, but must be within 30 minutes of the clinic. The reason for this is your safety. Should you get burned, laser flash in the eyes, etc. We need to get you medical attention promptly.
Even though you will probably never see the medical director, you should ask the clinic who their medical director is AND call that doctors office and have them confirm that they are indeed supervising that clinic and are they within 30 minutes. We know of competitors who have lost their medical director and operated without one. Now why would a clinic’s medical director drop a laser clinic? Often because they don’t feel comfortable with the clinics operations, technicians, etc. So if the clinic your using doesn’t have a medical director, then you should drop them too.
Also confirm where the doctor lives and where the office is. We know of one MD who was the medical director for several clinics in the northern Denver/Boulder area but his office was south of Colorado Springs and lived in South Denver – both far more than 30 minutes away.
So you may be wondering if you should go to a dermatologists office where you know the MD is on site. Well yes you could. You’ll find that their prices will be double of a clinic like ours. You’ll also find that the technician doing your laser hair removal treatments isn’t an MD or a nurse, but just a trained technician like us. Medical schools and nursing schools don’t teach anything about laser hair removal, so they have to learn the equipment and protocols just like anyone else.
