Laser hair removal can be performed throughout the year. What is important though is to minimize sun exposure on the treated areas several weeks before and after each treatment. With that said, you are probably better off during the winter months since you are outdoors less. The exception would be if you are planning a tropical vacation during the winter, then you’d want to make sure to use lots of sunscreen and to schedule your laser treatments at least several weeks before and after your vacation. Another exception would be outdoor sports in the winter and laser hair removal on the face. The sun reflecting off the snow at high altitudes can be extremely intense.

5 years ago i had a laser hair removal on my face (my sideburns). the result was good for alomst a year then suddenly the area where the laser was performed started breaking out and pimples were huge and very close to each other; it was horrible. and the thing is the hair grew longer and darker. i treated the pimples and all doctors denied that the laser was the cause of the pimples but how weird is it to coincide and take place mainly on my sideburns. as i said above the hair is longer now and i’m so uncomfortable standing in the sun or pulling up my hair therefore im thinking of laser again. my doctor is recommending it since i have a light complexion and the hair is dark but the thing is my parents wont let me in fear that ill have acne appear again and its a pahase that i so dont want to go through once again since it took me 3 full years to have a normal and not so good complexion. i want to know what you guys think since im really confused. i would appreciate your feedback.
Hi Malak, without seeing you or knowing the history it is hard to say, but I would trust the advice of your doctor if he/she feels that the laser was not the cause. Reading between the lines I’m guessing that you are younger since you mention that your parents won’t let you do laser again. As we all know puberty causes hair growth as well as acne. Hormones are powerful agents and we all go through a number of hormonal swings which can cause hair to grow, even if it was removed previously, such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause, etc. So if you went through a phase of life which included changes in hormones I’d bet that that caused the hair to regrow and the acne.
We’ve treated a number of young girls in their early teens and warned them that they’d be back in a few years. We’ve also treated women who had great results and no hair regrowth for several years, but then became pregnant, and had hair regrow. Not like it was before, but some hair came back. Men also have problems with the higher levels of testosterone and it can be a constant battle to keep the hair at bay.
