The summer brings on different challenges for our skin than the winter season – the sun’s rays are consistently bombarding our skin, and heat and sweat from outside activity can cause flare-ups. Here are 3 easy ways to keep a great glow, a clear, even tone, and protect your luminous skin – all at the same time!
1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Great skin has an even tone and texture because of regular, appropriate exfoliation. Exfoliation is just the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface layer. A tighter, more radiant face is the result. If your skin is more sensitive, lean more towards a light scrub 3-4 times a week (I recommend Sense Rice Bran Polisher), or if your skin is thicker and a little oiler, a nice salicylic peel every 4-6 weeks can do the trick as well.
2. Get your SPF on
Nothing is as paramount to your skin as wearing sunscreen. The sun is the largest extrinsic, or external factor, in how our skin is effected and in turn, how it ages. An SPF 15 can block out 94% of UV rays – and an SPF 30 blocks almost 98%! Anywhere from a SPF 15 to SPF 25 or 30 will keep you covered for the day. Make sure your moisturizer or make-up (for ladies) has a Sun Protection Factor – your skin will love you for it every year!
3. Keep hydrated
Summertime is full of fun, vacation, and lots of activities with families and friends. Just be sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day to hydrate you from the inside; in addition, all skin types need a balanced, non-comedogenic moisturizer (non-comedeogenic means it is “non-pore clogging” – a big plus!) to keep your skin hydrated on the outside. Skin gets thirsty too! At night, use a night cream, and even an eye cream as well, to protect the fragile skin around your eyes (I recommend the Usana Sense Eye Nourisher and Night Renewal Cream,). During the day use a Daily Facial Moisturizer with an SPF 15 that will keep your skin protected, nourished, and refreshed in every way!
