This the question everyone has, especially in today’s economy. You’ll find that for a given region that prices can vary widely and those with the highest prices usually use a high pressure sales tactics. I won’t name names, but if you call a nationwide laser clinic chain, and they refuse to give you prices over the phone or show prices on their website, then there is a good reason why – They are outrageously high priced. Here in Denver you’ll find the clinics downtown (Cherry Creek) will charge much more than those just 10-20 miles away. So if you want to save some money, consider a short drive.
You’ll find that most clinics will have a price for an area, such as back, underarm, bikini, etc. For example $80 for bikini line. Some will charge a flat rate for a zone. For example $70 per zone. The definition of a zone can be confusing. For example a bikini line may be two zones (Right & Left??) Thighs might be 4 zones (R/L front & back?)
You’ll also find discounts for packages. It typically takes about 7 treatments to clear an area. So they’ll offer a package which includes 7 treatments but for less than paying for 7 individual treatments. For example $400 for a package. With packages most clinics will require payment up front or may spread it over a couple of payments.
You can also save money by bundling several areas into one package, for example have your bikini line and underarms done at the same time. For men maybe chest and back. If finances permit, get as much done as one time as you can afford and you can usually get a discount.
Another variable, especially for men, is how much hair there is. Most clinics will have a price for say Men’s Back. But when you come in for the consultation if you only have say hair across the shoulders and upper back, but nothing on the lower back, then you may get a discount. The back price is based on a full back of hair like a bear.
Hair color can also make a difference. There are some lasers which will treat blond, white, gray, or light red hair, but these lighter hair colors take more treatments than brown or black hair so often you’ll find a slightly higher price up front, or you may buy a package of 7 treatments then find you have to buy an additional two to three treatments at the single treatment price.
Also ask about touch up prices. After you’ve completed your package you may still need an occasional touch up. Some will treat the entire area for a discount (we charge say $25 for underarm touch up vs $75 for the initial treatment) others will charge an office fee of say $15 then a dollar or two per pulse.
You also want to gauge the care you’ll receive by your initial phone call. Do they cut you off and tell you to go to the website, or do they spend time with you on the phone? Understand that smaller clinics may not have a receptionist so if they are with a client they may need to be shorter but should offer to call back, or if you get voice mail, leave a message and see who calls back. It is surprising, we hear of people who call other clinics and leave a message and they never call back.
As you can see there are a number of variables. So check out the websites and/or call the clinic and see if they will quote a price over the phone, then schedule a consultation. Back to my warning in the first paragraph. That nationwide chain will not quote prices over the phone or even at trade shows, they insist you come in for a consultation. Once you are in for a consultation you’ll get a very heavy sales pitch and you’ll be talked into a package, which they require to be paid in full up front. Once they have your money you’ll never be able to get it back. We have a number of clients who were sold a package from that chain and then found out how much they’d been over charged and were furious. They still complete the package there, but are coming to us for additional areas. For example they charge about $1,500 for a lip and chin package, we charge $225! You can see why they won’t quote prices or give refunds.
