In any city there are probably dozens or more laser hair removal salons to choose from so how do you decide? Below are some tips to look for:
- How long have they been in business? You want to trust you skin to someone who has been doing laser hair removal for a number of years – 5 or more is best. Even if the person doing the procedure has been working in the field for years, you want to make sure the business will be around to service you as the course of treatment can run for many months. You don’t want to invest in a package then come for your 4th visit and find the door locked. We’ve seen many open and then close in less than a year.
- Are they accredited with the local Better Business Bureau? Look for the BBB Logo on their website or ads then go to be BBB site and see what their rating is. Do they have any complaints, etc. In our area of the northern metro Denver Boulder area there are only two of us who are BBB accredited.
- Do you feel comfortable with the person you are talking to? Do they spend time with you on the phone or do they just tell you to go to the website. If they don’t have time to spend with you on the phone, will they have time to provide you quality service when you are on the table?
- Are you being pressured into buying a package? There are some large chains which will put your through a very high pressure sales pitch and almost force you buy a very expensive, non refundable, package on the spot. Run quickly. A package is a nice way to save some money, but that should by your option. We will even let you make payments on a package so you don’t have to pay it all up front.
- Is their medical director nearby? Here in Colorado the medical director must by law be within 30 minutes driving distance. If they aren’t, walk out.
- Don’t believe only nurses or doctors are qualified to do laser hair removal treatments. They don’t teach laser hair removal in medical or nursing school, so a nurse or doctor is no more qualified to perform the procedure than a well trained technician. Often if you do go to a doctors office you’ll never see the doctor, but will deal with a trained technician – you’ll just pay a much higher price. We’ve received a number of clients from other salons who were burned – and in every case it was by a nurse or a doctor!
- Do they specialize in your skin type if you have darker skin? Darker skin is difficult to treat and the risks of hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation is much higher. Make sure they’ve got the proper equipment (ND:YAG) and have treated many darker skinned people.
- Last is price. If they pass all the above tests, then look at price.
Hope this helps in your search.
This is great information!
